Case StudiesTechnology EvaluationA manufacturer of electric meters needed a modification to an existing low-cost product. His customers were requesting additional features that were too much for the old design, but the product could bear virtually no additional cost. SolutionOur initial assignment was to propose one or more possible solutions that met all the cost and capability criteria. We reviewed the existing design, researched possible new or replacement components, and did some preliminary design work. Our efforts were documented in a block diagram and written proposal covering how the new features would be implemented, parts cost and availability, manufacturing procedures required, and where applicable, what alternatives were possible. The client selected from the alternatives and approved full implementation of the design.
