New Product Design

The owner of a small entrepreneurial company wanted to develop a product using a PDA and wireless communications to replace the user interface side of an existing 2-piece industrial product. He needed assistance evaluating technical options and later also needed engineering to transform the ideas into a complete product design.

Solution

We met with the client to review his ideas, made suggestions, and worked out a roadmap for the project. Next we surveyed the market for components or modules that could perform the wireless interface required, and together with the client, selected Bluetooth. Given that critical decision, the product’s features were solidified and we proceeded to design the circuit for an adapter module to fit onto the non-PDA half of the product. A prototype circuit was built, tested, and approved by the client. To round out the design, we wrote and debugged a custom program for the PDA based on screens from the product being replaced and the client's required additions. Our job culminated with a pilot production run of 150 modules.
